5 bullet impacts on the windows and walls of the Franco-Maghrebi cultural association of Val de Morteau (Doubs)

The Franco-Maghrebi cultural association of Val de Morteau, located in Villers-le-Lac, is facing a series of disturbing incidents during the Ramadan period. Within ten days, two complaints have been filed following troubling events. The first one dates back to the night of March 8-9, 2025, when a shooting targeted the association’s premises. Five bullet impacts were found on the windows and walls of the building, with one bullet penetrating a window and entering a room. Fortunately, there were no casualties as the premises were empty at the time. The association’s president, Mohammed El Asaass, speaks of a feeling of attack against the structure, a place that brings together 80 Muslim families respectful of the neighborhood. The second incident occurred on March 18, when a 74-year-old man was arrested after driving at high speed around the building. Members of the association alerted law enforcement after observing suspicious behavior, including passing near people present for breaking the fast. The public prosecutor, Étienne Manteaux, specified that this act seemed more related to drunk driving than an aggressive gesture towards the Muslim community, although the individual did indeed make hostile remarks about the Muslim religion, stating: “He told us that our religion was useless, that it was s…” While the theory of an Islamophobic act is not currently being considered, the community feels a real sense of insecurity. The association’s members have taken additional security measures, concerned about the presence of the shooter who is still at large. The investigation continues to shed light on these events.
