Jaminet affair: he’s “no longer welcome” in the French team

Last Sunday, the day after his re-election as President of the French Rugby Federation (FFR), Florian Grill declared on the set of RMC that Melvyn Jaminet, a professional player prosecuted for his racist remarks, was “no longer welcome” in the French team.

Following his racist comments on Instagram last July, Jaminet was handed a 34-week suspension by the FFR. Back on the training benches at his home ground in Toulon in September, Jaminet is not certain of his return to the French national team.

Florian Grill explained:

“At some point, people have to understand that when you wear the cockerel, when you represent France, I’m sorry, but there are some things you’re not allowed to do. Maybe it’s a double penalty… I’m not the only one to decide and so these are things we’ll be looking at with the strategic board (of the FFR) and also with Fabien (Galthié, the coach)”.

Florian Grill’s words are a welcome reminder that impunity is no longer the order of the day.
