Lyon 3: outraged reactions after the discovery of Islamophobic tags on the university campus

Last Wednesday, a racist and Islamophobic tag was discovered in front of Jean Moulin Lyon 3 university, with shocking messages such as “Islam hors d’Europe” and “Stop immigration”.

Student unions and associations reacted with indignation to these acts of hatred. Gaelis Lyon, an organization bringing together Lyon’s student associations and elected representatives, issued a press release condemning these inscriptions and calling for sanctions against the rise of the extreme right within the university.

EMF Lyon, the local branch of the Association des Etudiants Musulmans de France (French Muslim Students’ Association), has also condemned the inscriptions, calling for concrete, lasting and preventive measures to be rapidly implemented to avoid any repetition of such acts.

Gabriel Amard, member of parliament for the left-wing La France Insoumise party in the Rhône region, has referred the matter to the public prosecutor for an investigation to be carried out against those responsible for the tags.
