Marion Bartoli, sports consultant on RMC, looks back at the Jaminet affair, the French professional rugby player prosecuted for his racist remarks against the Arab community on Instagram last summer. For these remarks, he was handed a 34-week suspension by the French Rugby Federation.
On the September 28 show, Bartoli expressed her indignation at the way the affair had been handled by Fabien Galthié, coach of the French national rugby team. Or rather, the way the affair was not handled.
Indeed, Bartoli found it abnormal that Galthié did not immediately speak out publicly to denounce his player’s racist remarks. She exclaimed: “When I read comments like that, and I see a coach of the French team who is not even capable of speaking up to say: I’m sorry, this person has no place in the ranks of the French team, he’s out…”.
A welcome indignation from Marion Bartoli, who reminds us that fame and sporting talent are not privileges under the law.
Melvyn Jaminet, the subject of several complaints including one from the Collectif contre l’islamophobie en Europe (CCIE), will have to answer for his actions before the French courts.
