Canton of Vaud: future police officers trained to combat discrimination

This training has become compulsory for future police officers during their training. The initiative was prompted by a number of high-profile court cases, such as the trial in June 2023 into the circumstances surrounding the death of Nigerian Mike Ben Peter during a drug check in Lausanne.

The cantonal police force’s message is clear: racism and discrimination have no place within the police force. A most welcome initiative, which deserves to be extended to the whole country, as well as to other European countries where racist police violence is rife.
