Switzerland: Muslim Mother Assaulted in Lausanne Because of Her Headscarf

In Lausanne, a Muslim mother named Saadia was assaulted last Monday at the entrance of her apartment building by a neighbor, in front of her 6-year-old son. The woman tore off her headscarf, pulled her hair, and strangled her while shouting racist insults. Still in shock, Saadia denounces the attack as motivated by Islamophobia. Her son, deeply traumatized, is struggling to sleep and refuses to return to the building. Although she did not immediately file a complaint, she was able to identify her attacker thanks to neighbors and now intends to take legal action. Her testimony comes a few days before the anti-racism action week in Lausanne and amid ongoing debates about discrimination against Muslim women in Switzerland.
