An 82-year-old Muslim woman in The Hague was attacked by her neighbor and spent several days in intensive care.

It had already been a difficult year for 82-year-old Cemile. Of Turkish origin, she was regularly subjected to threats and racist insults from her neighbor, who told her to “go back to her country”.

A few weeks ago, Cemile was hit and dragged down the stairs of her home by her neighbor. Other neighbors intervened, calling the police and an ambulance.

In hospital, Cemile spends several days in intensive care. She has four broken ribs, a broken nose and numerous haematomas all over her body.

These are the serious consequences of outright Islamophobia in a country where the extreme right came out on top in the last legislative elections.
