Brussels: Arrest of a 14-Year-Old Suspected of Planning to Attack a Mosque

A 14-year-old, suspected of planning an attack on a mosque in Brussels, was arrested last Thursday. The teenager, originally from Ukraine and a far-right sympathizer, was in possession of weapons and computer equipment.

The prosecutor’s office indicated that he planned to attack the Annajah mosque in Molenbeek on January 24, a day of prayer.

After a search of his home, knives and compasses were seized. The teenager was placed in a closed center for minors. The Minister of Justice, Paul Van Tigchelt, emphasized the worrying acceleration of youth radicalization, particularly online. According to authorities, a third of individuals involved in terrorism cases between 2022 and 2024 were minors, a trend fueled by social networks.

This arrest highlights the threat of far-right terrorism, too often minimized, especially among young people.
