“Can I wear a tunic to school?”

The law of March 15, 2004, which, in application of the principle of secularism, regulates the wearing of signs or clothing that overtly manifest a religious affiliation in public schools, colleges, and high schools, does not prohibit the wearing of long skirts or dresses, loose-fitting clothing, or headbands, which are naturally not religious attire.

   These legal provisions should be reminded to any school principal or teacher who would claim to prohibit the wearing of headbands, tunics, long skirts or dresses by erroneously qualifying them as religious attire.
