Cherbourg: Mosque Targeted by Islamophobic Inscription

In Cherbourg (northern France), the mosque of the Turkish Cultural and Islamic Association was the target of an Islamophobic act during the night of January 25-26, 2025.

A tag representing a pig’s head was discovered on the mosque’s gate. Although the community has never encountered problems with its neighbors, this incident highlights the intensification of religious hatred and Islamophobia, particularly against Muslim places of worship.

This act occurs in a context where, in the previous year, other mosques in the region, notably the one on Coluche Street, were also victims of violence and threats, often associated with the far-right.

The mosque’s leaders immediately reacted by strongly condemning this gesture. A complaint has been filed, and investigations are underway to identify those responsible.
