Grand-Est: arson attack on mosque, suspect taken to court

Last Thursday, the Ulu Camii mosque in Haguenau (in the Grand-Est region of France) was the target of arson. Thanks to the quick response of a worshipper on site, firefighters were able to intervene rapidly and contain the flames, which only affected the building’s entrance door.

The association responsible for the mosque has filed a complaint and an investigation has been opened. The suspect, a man in his twenties, was brought before the court on Sunday and released under judicial supervision.

The town’s mayor, Claude Sturni, expressed his support in the following terms: “We stand united against all forms of hatred and violence. Our city will not be divided by these cowardly acts”.
