Several students from the Grenoble School of Management (GEM) were expelled from the institution at the start of January 2025 after the circulation of racist and Islamophobic videos on social media.
These videos, filmed during the elections for the Student Union, included scenes of blackface and mockery of Muslim prayer, which sparked widespread outrage. Fewer than ten students were identified after an internal investigation, and others were sanctioned, notably by being banned from holding positions of responsibility in student associations.
Although the Grenoble prosecutor’s office dismissed the case on criminal grounds, considering that the videos did not constitute an offense, GEM has strengthened its action plan against discrimination and taken disciplinary measures against those responsible. These sanctions are part of a broader commitment to combat discrimination within the school, with the implementation of reporting platforms and other initiatives to promote a respectful environment.
