“I Heard Screams”: In Nantes, an Armed Man Bursts into the Grand Mosque

On Saturday at noon, a 48-year-old man armed with a knife burst into the grand mosque of Nantes (western France), the Assalam Mosque, after threatening a man in the parking lot of the place of worship.

He was quickly neutralized and no victims were reported. The intrusion took place outside of daily prayer times, minimizing the impact it could have had.

This incident clearly illustrates the harmful consequences that normalized Islamophobic discourses permeating French society can have.
