The Lyon administrative court has just ordered the commune of Tassin-la-Demi-Lune (Lyon metropolitan area, south-east France) to put alternative meals back on the school canteen menu.
Following a decision by the mayor in 2016, alternative menus were abolished on the spurious grounds of “respect for secularism”.
A welcome decision to restore the true meaning of the concept of laïcité. The mayor, for his part, has declared that he will appeal the decision.
