Karla Sofía Gascón: Islamophobic and Racist Comments Fuel Controversy Before the Oscars
Karla Sofía Gascón, star of the recently Oscar-nominated film Emilia Pérez, was forced to apologize after the resurfacing of racist and Islamophobic tweets.
Among the most scandalous statements, the Spanish actress wrote in 2020:

This Islamophobic comment not only aims to ridicule religious practices but also insults Muslim women, reduced to objects of systematic oppression according to her distorted analysis.
She also expressed concerns about the “growing presence of Muslims in Spain,” lamenting the increase of veiled women in the streets, going as far as to declare:
“Maybe next year, instead of English, we will have to teach Arabic [in her daughter’s school].”
The actress’s statements, far from being a simple slip of the tongue, reveal a deeply racist and Islamophobic vision, supporting dangerous stereotypes and exacerbating divisions in a society already marked by growing tensions.
