Mathematics Teacher and Islamophobic Influencer: The Two Faces of a Teacher in a Private Catholic School in Brittany

A mathematics teacher in a private Catholic school in Finistère leads a double life that is, to say the least, shocking. Outside her classroom, she distinguishes herself on the social network X, where she spreads hateful messages, often of an Islamophobic and racist nature. This online activity, although widely known to her colleagues, has not yet led to any measures from the school’s management.

For years, she has been publishing degrading messages against the Muslim community, including insults towards political figures and feminist groups.

Despite internal alerts to the school as early as December 2023, and although the management was informed of her posts, no concrete action has been taken. The school principal stated that he had not fully realized the severity of the far-right activist’s comments, arguing that her profile remained private and that the teacher had not directly spread her opinions to students.

The case highlights the inability of educational authorities to manage the issue of online hate. Despite comments clearly incompatible with the values of the Republic, the Rennes education authority deemed that there was no need to take the procedure further, as the teacher’s profile did not allow for directly linking her online activity to her profession.

This situation raises fundamental questions about civil servants’ duty of discretion and the responsibility of educational institutions in dealing with teachers who spread hateful messages outside the school setting. For now, the question of the school’s responsibility in this matter remains unresolved, with mixed reactions from educational authorities.
