“Mr. Minister, what actions do you plan to take to combat Islamophobia in concrete terms?” a French MP’s appeal following the latest report on Islamophobia in Europe

In an official letter to the Secretary of State for Citizenship and the Fight against Discrimination, Othman Nasrou, dated October 24, left-wing MP Farida Amrani (LFI) expresses her deep concern at the release of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) report on the state of Islamophobia in Europe.

Ms. Amrani asked the Secretary of State what concrete steps he intended to take to combat Islamophobia throughout France, despite the fact that four days earlier he had been heard on CNEWS, one of France’s leading media outlets promoting extreme right-wing ideas, to say that some people were deliberately manipulating secularism to confuse it with Islamophobia for electoral purposes.

Ms. Amrani’s initiative is to be welcomed, as a way of holding the members of the new French government to account.
