Britt Huybrechts, 24, a Vlaams Belang member of the House of Representatives in the Belgian Federal Parliament, is facing criticism for statements she made in April on Vlaams Belang TV, the far-right party’s YouTube channel.
In a debate on immigration, broadcast on the party’s YouTube channel, the MP, then a candidate, said: “In holiday villages, we notice that we are always harassed by a certain group of young people. It’s never nice little Johans, but rather nasty little Mohammeds who come looking for trouble. “
Huybrechts didn’t stop at these remarks and also addressed the subject of development aid: according to her, Belgium prefers to give money to the third world rather than to its own people. She added: By acting in this way, the Belgian government is not content with importing the third world through immigration, it is also turning Belgium into a third world country.
Britt Huybrechts is not new to politics. A former president of the Leuven branch of the Katholiek Vlaams Hoogstudentenverbond (KVHV), a conservative and nationalist student circle, she first cut her teeth within the N-VA at the local level before joining the Vlaams Belang. Following the elections on June 9, she is now a member of the Belgian Federal Parliament for her first term.
