Plaster Grenade in Front of St-Omer Mosque: 7 Months Suspended Prison Sentence for the Perpetrator

On January 21, 2025, a grenade was found in front of the mosque on Édouard-Devaux Street in Saint-Omer, following a previous incident in March 2024 where a pig’s head had been placed in front of the place of worship.

A woman from Saint-Omer was arrested and sentenced to 7 months suspended prison sentence after admitting to placing the explosive device in front of the mosque.

Although the accused person claimed that she was not directly targeting the mosque, this act is part of a series of Islamophobic violence and provocations that are becoming increasingly frequent and normalized.

It is urgent to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of all places of worship and their worshippers.
